Design Inevitable is a workshop conducted by renowned Japanese Designer, Naoto Fukasawa. Aimed at helping to improve and elevate level of design thinking in Singapore, the three-day workshop was organized by the Singapore Furniture Industries Council with the support of SPRING Singapore, LASALLE College of the Arts and XTRA Designs Pte Ltd.
A group of Singapore-based designers participated in the workshop, which was held in January 2010, and worked on conceiving, designing and producing a set of concept furniture. Using the theme of "design inevitable", Mr. Fukasawa led the designers through the process of exploring, and finding inspiration, in the Singaporean identity. After the workshop, Mr. Fukasawa continued to work with designers in refining their concepts with the objective of creating a commercial collection of furniture.
With the assistance of local furniture leader, XTRA Designs Pte Ltd, 11 of these designs were prototyped and produced. This showcase will be launched at the much-anticipated International Funriture Fair Singapore 2011/28th ASEAN Furniture Show (IFFS/AFS 2011), Deco Asia 2011 and Hospitality Asia 2011 from 9 to 12 March at Hall3, Singapore Expo.
